Drawing from decades of hands-on experience that began in a garden shed and matured through formal study in acoustics, James has spent over a decade perfecting his craft. The Ffion is the crown jewel of that journey: his most ambitious design yet, and the first in a new premium series from Ophidian.

Named after his daughter and crafted with the care of a father’s love, the Ffion stands as a full-range floorstander which combines a sculptural aesthetic with an obsessive attention to sonic detail. It’s a loudspeaker designed to resonate with both the heart and the ear.

Sculpted Sound, Singular Design

Ffion’s visual impact is immediate. Its tapered cabinet, crafted from 18mm HDF, narrows elegantly from its 264mm base to a mere 132mm at the top. The result? A beautifully clean silhouette that’s as acoustically intelligent as it is visually striking, minimizing internal standing waves and structural resonance.

Inside, the Ffion features a downward-firing woofer powered by Ophidian’s proprietary Aeroflex technology, a clever hybrid of transmission line and conventional porting that delivers deep, clean bass without the trade-offs. Its 125mm aluminium mid-bass driver and SEAS 22mm soft-dome tweeter are perfectly integrated, working together to project a seamless, point-source soundstage that is immersive and spatially precise.

Engineered for Purity

Every element of the Ffion is chosen for performance. From Mundorf-sourced crossover components, air-cored inductors and non-inductive resistors, to the smart three-board crossover layout that prevents crosstalk, nothing has been left to chance. The speaker’s 2nd order crossovers at 170Hz and 2.5kHz ensure each driver operates well within its ideal performance window, minimizing distortion and maximizing clarity.
