Slot-Loading CD Transport for the Ruark R410, R610, R810
The Ruark R-CD100 is a slot-loading CD transport designed exclusively for the Ruark 100 Series — the R410, R610, and R810 — adding genuine CD playback to your existing system via a single USB-C cable. Housed in a hand-crafted Fused Walnut cabinet with a precision-machined aluminium top plate, the R-CD100 is acoustically isolated for whisper-quiet performance and plug-and-play integration: connect it to any 100 Series model and "CD" appears automatically as a new source on the display.
Important: this is a companion CD player for the 100 Series, not a standalone unit
Before we go any further: the R-CD100 is designed exclusively to partner with the Ruark R410, R610, or R810. It won't work as a standalone CD player, and it won't work with non-Ruark systems. There's no built-in DAC and no analogue outputs — the 100 Series host handles digital-to-analogue conversion through its own Burr-Brown DACs, which is exactly why the R-CD100 sounds as good as it does.
If you don't already own (or plan to own) a 100 Series system, this isn't the CD player for you. If you want a compact Ruark music system with a CD player built in, look at the Ruark R3S Compact Music System instead — it includes its own slot-loading CD player as standard.
If you do own a 100 Series system and you've still got a wall of CDs, the R-CD100 is the missing piece.
Why Ruark built the R-CD100
Ruark designed the 100 Series around streaming. AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect — the platform handles essentially every modern source the way an audiophile would want it handled. But that left one gap: the billions of CDs sitting in homes around the world, and the growing number of new listeners discovering physical media for the first time.
Rather than retrofitting a CD slot into the all-in-one cabinets and compromising both the streaming hardware and the look of the 100 Series, Ruark built a dedicated companion: the R-CD100. A purpose-engineered slot-loading transport, acoustically isolated in its own enclosure, designed to match the R410, R610, and R810 visually and to integrate with them invisibly. One USB-C cable, automatic source detection, and you're spinning silver discs through your hi-fi system again.
What you get
- Slot-loading CD mechanism — no tray, no fuss, no mechanical drama. Drop a disc in, the music starts.
- Compatible with CD-DA, CD-R, and CD-RW discs — pressed audio CDs, self-burned discs, and rewritable discs all work.
- USB-C connection (supplied cable included) — single-cable plug-and-play to your 100 Series host.
- Automatic source integration — "CD" appears as a new source on your R410, R610, or R810 display the moment the R-CD100 is connected. Control via the host's RotoDial, Bluetooth remote, or front panel.
- Acoustically isolated enclosure with precision-machined top and bottom plates — shields the mechanism from external vibrations and electrical interference for cleaner, lower-noise playback.
- Hand-crafted Fused Walnut veneer cabinet with a brushed aluminium top plate — matched to the 100 Series aesthetic.
- Whisper-quiet operation — no audible mechanical rumble, no read noise creeping into quiet passages.
- Compact footprint — barely bigger than a CD case itself, so it slots beside, on top of, or below your 100 Series system without dominating the shelf.
- Minimalist front panel — just an eject button and a power LED. The host's display handles track info and controls.
How it works
The R-CD100 is a CD transport, not a complete CD player. That distinction matters because it's the reason it sounds as good as it does in this system.
A traditional standalone CD player reads the disc and converts the digital signal to analogue using its own internal DAC. The R-CD100 reads the disc, then passes the bit-perfect digital stream over USB-C to your 100 Series product, where Ruark's advanced Burr-Brown 32-bit / 192kHz DAC handles the conversion. Because the DAC in the R410, R610, or R810 is significantly more capable than what would typically be built into a £250 standalone CD player, the system as a whole delivers better sound than either component would on its own.
It's also why setup is genuinely plug-and-play. No source switching menus, no audio routing, no extra remotes — connect the USB-C cable, and the host system instantly recognises "CD" as a new selectable source.
Design: minimal, machined, made to match
The R-CD100 sticks to the same design language as the rest of the 100 Series. A precision-machined aluminium top plate sits on a hand-veneered Fused Walnut cabinet, with the slot-loading CD mechanism integrated cleanly into the front. There's no display (the host system handles that), no cluttered controls (just an eject button and power LED), and no badging that doesn't need to be there.
One finish:
- Fused Walnut veneer case with brushed aluminium top plate
At a footprint barely larger than a CD case itself, the R-CD100 is small enough to sit on, beside, or under your 100 Series system without crowding the shelf — and finished to a standard that earns its place there.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the Ruark R-CD100 be used as a standalone CD player? No. The R-CD100 is a CD transport designed exclusively to partner with the Ruark R410, R610, or R810 via USB-C. It has no internal DAC and no analogue outputs — it relies on the 100 Series host for digital-to-analogue conversion and amplification.
Which Ruark products work with the R-CD100? Only the 100 Series: the R410 All-in-One Music System, the R610 Music Console, and the R810 High Fidelity Radiogram. The R-CD100 is not compatible with the R-Series products (R1, R1S, R2, R3S, MR1) or any third-party hi-fi system.
I want a Ruark with a CD player built in — what should I buy? The Ruark R3S Compact Music System includes a slot-loading CD player as standard, plus streaming and Internet/DAB+/FM radio in a single cabinet. The R3S is the right choice if you want a compact one-box Ruark with CDs included.
What's the difference between a CD player and a CD transport? A standalone CD player reads the disc and converts the digital signal to analogue using its own internal DAC. A CD transport (like the R-CD100) only reads the disc and passes the digital signal to an external DAC. The R-CD100 uses the high-quality Burr-Brown DAC inside your 100 Series host, which generally delivers better sound than the DAC you'd find in a standalone CD player at this price.
Can I use the R-CD100 with a USB DAC or computer? No — the R-CD100's USB-C output uses a proprietary CD-servo-to-USB interface designed specifically for Ruark 100 Series hosts. It won't function as a USB CD drive for a computer or any third-party DAC.
What types of CDs can the R-CD100 play? Standard pressed audio CDs (CD-DA), self-burned recordable discs (CD-R), and rewritable discs (CD-RW). It does not support SACD, DSD, MQA-CD, or DVD-Audio formats.
How do I connect the R-CD100? A single USB-C cable (included) connects from the rear of the R-CD100 to the USB-C input on the back of your R410, R610, or R810. The host system automatically recognises "CD" as a new source on its display — no menu setup or configuration needed.
Does the R-CD100 come with a remote? No — the R-CD100 doesn't include its own remote. It uses the existing controls on your 100 Series host: the RotoDial controller, the included Bluetooth remote, and the front-panel buttons. The R-CD100 itself has only an eject button and a power LED on the front.
Is the R-CD100 noisy when playing discs? No — Ruark designed the R-CD100 specifically for "whisper-quiet" operation. The slot-loading mechanism is isolated in an acoustically damped enclosure with precision-machined top and bottom plates, shielding it from mechanical noise and external vibrations.
What finish does the R-CD100 come in? One finish only: Fused Walnut veneer cabinet with a brushed aluminium top plate — designed to match all three current 100 Series finishes (Rich Walnut, Soft Grey Lacquer, Charcoal Lacquer).
What's in the box? The R-CD100 CD transport, USB-C connection cable, power adapter, and quick-start guide.
