Why take the output straight from the DAC's current source?
The ES9038PRO delivers up to 120 mA, and Soulnote's discrete non-NFB stage uses it directly, working up into the megahertz region. The op-amp buffer most converters put in the way is simply absent, and the dynamics show it.
How does the D1N relate to the D-1N ver.2?
The ver.2 is the successor: it adds a second ES9038PRO so each channel has its own chip in monaural mode, ultra-low-jitter clocking under 1 picosecond and a selectable NOS mode.
