The best producers know the secret: the art is what you leave out. Soulnote engineers the same way — every stage a conventional design adds to the signal path is a chance to blur the original waveform, so Soulnote removes them, one by one, and tunes what remains by ear.

What does a master clock actually do?
It feeds a compatible DAC, transport or streamer a fixed 10 MHz reference, so the conversion runs on one steady timebase instead of its own internal clock. Jitter falls and the sound relaxes into place.
Why an OCXO instead of the usual TCXO?
An oven-controlled oscillator holds its crystal at one temperature, so accuracy and phase noise both improve over the temperature-compensated clocks common in audio. Soulnote chose the SC-cut OCXO by listening as much as by measurement.
What connects to it?
Any component with a 10 MHz clock input. The X3 has one SMA output at 50 ohms and ships with an SMA to SMA cable and an SMA to BNC converter, so both connector standards are covered.

It's supported by a power supply worthy of an amplifier: a 200 VA toroidal transformer — the kind you'd find in a 100 W power amp — with ultra-high-speed SiC rectifier diodes and Soulnote's proprietary non-NFB discrete regulation for a robust, stable, low-noise current feed. Naked foil resistors adapted from artificial-satellite-grade ultra-high-precision components sit in the output stage.

Built to Isolate, Ready to Connect

The housing uses dual non-rigid top plates, isolated AC inlets and spike supports positioned directly under the transformer to keep vibration away from the timing.
