What exactly is on the four sides?
Side A carries graduated frequency sweeps from 20 Hz to 20 kHz at set reference levels. Side B has a flat anti-skating surface and a silent groove for isolation testing. Side C holds a 3150 Hz wow-and-flutter tone, a 1 kHz mono reference, and crosstalk/alignment tracks. Side D adds logarithmic and linear sweeps, a frequency-modulation stability test, and an anti-skating sweep from 315 Hz to +10 dB.
Do I need test equipment to use this record?
No. The included 5-step guide and calibration template walk you through VTA, azimuth, alignment, tracking force and anti-skating by ear and by the included visual template. A wow-and-flutter meter or oscilloscope will get you more precise readings, but they are not required for basic setup.
Will this work with my turntable, not just Unitra models?
Yes. It's explicitly compatible with Unitra's GSH-630 and GSH-801 decks, but the test bands are generic to any turntable with a standard tonearm and cartridge.
How is this different from the standard WT-1 test record?
The WT-2 Laboratory Edition expands the format to two discs and four sides, adding the dedicated wow-and-flutter band, crosstalk tracks and the anti-skating sweep test not covered by the single-disc standard edition.
What's the pressing weight and format?
Each disc is a standard-weight 140 g 12" pressing, spinning at 33 1/3 RPM — two records making up the four sides.
Can this diagnose a specific problem, like uneven channel volume?
Yes. The Side C crosstalk and alignment tracks and the 1 kHz mono reference tone are built specifically to reveal channel imbalance and misalignment.
