About the Ophidian Seren Bookshelf Speakers
Ophidian Seren: a seven-inch cone that keeps its shape, so the crossover has less to fix
The Seren is a two-way standmount that sits between Ophidian's M-Series and the Incanto and Ffion, and it carries the same 22 mm Sonolex-coated tweeter as those two. Its mid-woofer is a 180 mm one-piece black anodised aluminium cone with an indexed cone-to-surround junction, which keeps its behaviour smooth through the crossover region; the six-element Mundorf network then has less correcting to do.
What the box does with air
The Aeroflex path is a shortened transmission tunnel folded on the rear panel, exiting through a stainless steel grille near the base. Its panels double as bracing inside the 18 mm cabinet, so the structure that carries the bass also stops the walls moving. The rated low-frequency limit is 40 Hz; sensitivity is 88 dB into 8 ohms, an easy load for most amplifiers.
How it is finished
Real wood veneer in oak or walnut, a laser-cut 316 stainless steel rear panel, WBT chromium-plated binding posts, magnetic grilles. It is a large standmount, and reviewers describe it as a slow burner that rewards running in.
