The figures
Three numbers, and what each one is for.
The low-frequency limit for two 10.5-inch aluminium cones with over an inch of travel, loaded by an Aeroflex channel a large cabinet can afford.
The weight of the cabinet, the drivers and the crossover; the optional CNC-machined aluminium plinth adds another 11 kg.
The recommended amplifier window; the Voodoo is a big speaker and asks for a big amplifier to show why.

About the Ophidian Voodoo Floorstanding Speakers
Ophidian Voodoo: two ten-inch cones with an inch of travel, loaded so they never sound like they are trying
The Voodoo is Ophidian's flagship, a three-way floorstander 1,296 mm tall and 59.5 kg each. Two 265 mm black anodised aluminium woofers with triple shorting rings and over an inch of linear travel work into an Aeroflex channel that is a hybrid of transmission line and port. Because a cabinet this size can afford a channel this large, the air moves slowly even at the extremes of that travel, which is how the speaker reaches its rated 26 Hz with the same balance it has at a whisper.
What is inside
A 180 mm aluminium mid-bass with a solid alloy phase plug sits in its own damped sub-enclosure. A 22 mm Sonomex soft dome with a large roll surround carries the top. The crossover uses Mundorf air-cored coils and low-distortion capacitors; the terminals are WBT, 24-carat gold-plated high-purity copper. An optional 11 kg CNC-machined aluminium plinth adds stability and isolation.
Where it lives
A large room. Ophidian recommends 100 to 400 W; at 87 dB and 4 ohms it rewards powerful, high-quality amplification.
On record
Hi-Fi Choice, issue 490: five stars for sound, value and build, Recommended. "Supple, weighty bass that breathes, stereo without obvious boundaries." Its only reservation was that the size will not suit everyone.
Designed, built and voiced by Gareth James, the founder of Ophidian Audio, on the Wirral, England. Ophidian has made loudspeakers since 2011.
