About the Ophidian Minimo 2 Bookshelf Speakers
Ophidian Minimo 2: paperback-sized, and the bass is real, because the air inside it moves slowly
The Minimo 2 is a two-way standmount 210 mm tall. Its bass comes from Ophidian's Aeroflex loading: instead of a short tube pushed through a hole, the port is a long, wide channel built into the cabinet, so air moves through it slowly even when the 115 mm driver is working hard. The driver stays under control, the box stays quiet, and the rated low-frequency limit is 53 Hz.
What is inside
The mid/bass driver is a 115 mm coated-paper cone with 65 percent more surface than the original Minimo's, so it moves more air with less excursion. Above it sits a 27 mm Sonolex-coated fabric dome on a neodymium motor. The two are mounted close together, which is why the stereo image holds together at desk distance as well as across a room. The port panels are part of the cabinet structure, so they brace the walls where the bass energy is.
Where it lives
Integral rear wall mounts, a desk, a shelf or a stand. At 2.6 kg each and 132 mm wide it fits where most loudspeakers do not, and Ophidian recommends 40 to 80 W of clean amplification to bring it up.
